EVALUATION OF NEC IN TWO HOSPITAL IN TEHRAN  IRAN

Abstract

Objectives; Necrotizing Enterocolitis ( NEC ) is serious inflammatory Gastrointestinal disease of the newborn it is the most common cause Of GI urgencies in the neonatal period with high mortality and morbidity Rates.

Method; This is retrospective study was done to determine some of Epidemiologic figures in the two medical centers .

Results; 1832 newborn were admitted  in NICU , 48 cases was NEC 3.5 % Prematurity 87.5 % and VLBW  were the most common risk factors And the incidence of VLBW and GA , lower than 32 wks was more Prominent in the severe forms of the disease.most common clinical Manifestation include Distention 100% RD 60.5 %occult Blood 37.5 % Vomiting 33.3 % RX; dilated loops,91.7% bowel wall thickening, 79.2% pneumatosis intestinalis 33.4 % intrahepatic portal venous gas 8.4%pneumoperitonean 8.4% about91.7%have received at least one enteral feeding before NEC. Death 22.9 % usually at II , III  stage
